In response to "Campus sustainability calls for individual responsibility, collective awareness," Oct. 23:Does Roni Deitz really care about sustainability or does she just want students to feel guilty?
In her column, she asserts that students "need to want to be worthy" of gold-level environmental consciousness, implying that her fellow students don't even know what's good for them.
Ms. Deitz then explains that advancing sustainability should not rely on using technology, but on "promoting an environmental awareness ... and fostering an internal motivation to protect the world." This means that instead of actually accomplishing sustainability in an efficient manner, the goal is to spread guilt.
To advance sustainability there are better ways to invest one's time than struggling to change our human-centric mindset. How about helping create new technologies so we can consume more with fewer resources? Or how about helping with efforts to reduce human suffering, such as child malnutrition or preventable diseases?

In response to "Advice on Poaching, The Man," Oct. 23:
I usually like this column, but I have to say the advice given to the person being sexually harrassed was terrible! For one thing, it is really inappropriate, sad, and upsetting to see the victim of such harrassment being made fun of by someone he/she is reaching out to for help. Accepting harrassment from superiors without complaint does not equal "being able to take a joke". Saying things like "you've really got yourself into it this time" is another example of blaming the asker for being harrassed. And that's just not right. You need to check your attitude, Denver. This week, you failed.
Surprised and Disappointed
In response to "New Moon album brings surprisingly unique flavor," Oct. 23:
Call the Twilight series poorly written one more time and I'll kick your face! Can you call something so real, so understandable, poorly written? Well, I bet you haven't even read the whole saga yet. I want you to change the words "poorly written" up there! Or else I'll blog and e-mail everyone I can to make a protest, ASAP!
