Letters to the Editor
To the Editor:
I don't know Diane Wolfthal (In response to "Letter to the Editor, Diane Wolfthal, Nov. 12), but I think it is interesting that, as a Rice professor, she doesn't realize that her daily existance is supported by "generous Americans giving to charity and the causes they care about."It seemed strange that she would flag that in a letter to the paper, and, even more strange, would time it to coincide with the celebration of Philanthropy Week. if they need a keynote speaker, I hope it's not too late to contact her.
It is also interesting that she does not realize that art has been supported by philanthropy for ?many centuries.
Yes, the Thresher always makes for good reading!

To the Editor:
As chair of the Department of Computer Science, I would like to thank the Thresher for an excellent article highlighting the recent changes in the Computer Science curriculum. As the article points out, one of the driving forces behind this change has been the success of COMP 140, "Computational Thinking," in attracting new students to Computer Science.
Much of this success has been due to the hard work of Professor Devika Subramanian and the staff of COMP 140 in developing and delivering this course. The Computer Science Department would like to thank Professor Subramanian and her staff for their efforts, and also thank Microsoft for its generous financial support of the development of this class.
Joe Warren
Chair of Department of Computer Engineering
