The Thresher received this statement from Justin Onwenu who released it for publishing.

Sad to Leave, Hopeful for the Future

After close discussion with family, friends and mentors, I have decided to step down from my role as 2016-2017 Student Association External Vice President. Given recent personal circumstances, I believe this is the best decision for myself and for the SA. I love Rice and I have truly enjoyed serving students through the SA over the past two years. I cannot thank the people who have supported me through this process enough.

Although I am sad to leave this journey prematurely, I hope to continue to serve as a voice for student concerns in other capacities. By stepping down before changeover, I hope to leave the SA, President-Elect Griffin Thomas and the new executive team on track to have an extremely successful year serving students’ interests. I am confident they will do a remarkable job in the upcoming term. Once again, thank you so much for the support.
