New dining schedule brings back breakfast at all serveries starting Mar. 3
Housing and Dining announced in an email to the student body Feb. 18 that breakfast will be available at all serveries starting Mar. 3.
Other changes coming Mar. 3 include extending dinner from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. at North and Seibel Serveries and bringing back the munch meal period. Munch will be served from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at West and South Serveries, with a 30-minute break between the end of lunch and the beginning of munch.
Beth Leaver, Interim Assistant Vice President of H&D, said the changes were made due to student feedback.
“These adjustments reflect student input on fostering community during mealtimes,” Leaver wrote in an email to the Thresher. “While some meal periods had lower participation, they remained valuable for connection. We extended dinner hours in serveries on both sides of campus to better accommodate students engaged in activities and adjusted service where continuous dining saw minimal use.”
The new schedule has more consistent meal periods across serveries. Lunch starts at 11:30 a.m. at all serveries, and ends at 1:30 p.m. at Baker, West and South, and 2:00 p.m. at North and Seibel. Dinner starts at 5:00 p.m. at Baker, West and South, and ends in staggered 30-minute intervals, starting with Baker’s 7:30 p.m. closure, followed by West and South and then the remaining serveries.

Rice testifies for lawsuit against ‘devastating’ federal funding cuts
Rice joined 70 other universities supporting a lawsuit against the National Institutes of Health, which may reduce research funding by billions of dollars. Rice University’s famed horn professor William VerMeulen abruptly retired last spring amid a swirl of sexual misconduct allegations. But dozens of students and industry insiders say “the administration has known for 30 years” — and failed to act.
