Faculty Senate approval of credit hour limit in face of student protests spurs campus debate

I am proud of my Rice education and that I achieved my degree in four, tidy years. Had there been an 18 hour limit in those days, I would not have graduated "on time". So, perhaps I'm biased in my distaste for the recent faculty vote. I don't think so, though. It seems Rice has rushed to a decision that exposes a certain contempt for the opinion of the collective mind of the student body. In the face of such significant student opposition, a longer and more constructive dialogue should have occurred before a final decision.
