Junior quarterback Tyler Stehling attempts to shake off a Golden Eagles defensive lineman during a 65-10 loss against the University of Southern Mississippi in a homecoming game blow out this Saturday. The match dropped Rice to 4-6 on the season. Stehling replaced senior Driphus Jackson at the end of the second quarter after Jackson was sacked five times in the first half of the game. Because of this loss, Rice will need to win their final two regular season games to qualify for a postseason bowl game. The Owls will travel to the University of Texas, San Antonio on Nov. 21 and try to shake their three-game losing streak.

Letcher-Ellis recorded 11 points in a game that had five freshmen see considerable game action. Rice will now look to its official season opener against the No. 14 University of California, Berkeley. Tipoff for the game is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 13 at 10:30 p.m.

The Rice University soccer team played two consecutive matches at home for the first time since Sept. 6. The Owls either tied or broke a school record in each game.

The Rice Owls launched their 2015 season with an emphatic 56-16 victory over New York City’s Wagner College Seahawks, marking their first win to open a season in seven years. The Owls hope to improve on last year’s 7-5 team, whose efforts culminated in a Hawai’i Bowl victory over Fresno State.
