Freddy Cavallaro calls for Student Association reform in presidential campaign

Freddy Cavallaro’s #DismantleTheSA campaign for president is focused on significant bylaw and constitutional reform for the Student Association, with the goal of making the SA Senate more representative of the student body rather than actually dismantling it. According to Cavallaro, he would resign from the SA president role once his reforms have been implemented, if he were to be elected.


SA presidential candidates highlight differences at debate

At the annual Student Association Presidential Debate, presented by the Rice Thresher, three Student Association President hopefuls took the stage on Friday, Feb. 15 to discuss their platforms, including optional social justice curriculums, SA constitutional reforms and banning 8 a.m. classes. Voting will begin on Thursday, Feb. 21. 





Changes come to caregiving amidst concerns over program

The Wellbeing Center is placing additional regulations on the caregiving program, according to an email obtained by the Thresher sent by Si Qi Tong, a campuswide caregiver. These changes come amidst contradictory reports from Rice Emergency Medical Services (REMS), the Wellbeing Center and the caregiving program over whether REMS withdrew their support of the program.







Senate candidate Beto O'Rourke to speak nearby Rice on Tuesday

Beto O’Rourke, the Democratic nominee for the Texas U.S. Senate race and the current representative of Texas’ 16th Congressional District, will speak to Rice students at the First Christian Church at 1601 Sunset Boulevard this Tuesday, according to Franz Brotzen, president of the Rice University Young Democrats.
