The Rice University soccer team headed out on the road this past weekend to face two more Conference USA opponents. On Friday, the Owls defeated the University of Texas, San Antonio 3-0. Rice then traveled to face off against the University of Texas, El Paso on Sunday; the Owls lost to the Miners 1-0 in overtime. The Owls are now 7-2-2 on the season and second overall in C-USA with a 3-1 conference record.

The Rice University soccer team (6-1-2, 2-0 C-USA) played at home this past weekend to open their 2014 Conference USA schedule. The Owls took two more victories to add to their streak of unbeaten matches, which now stands at eight games. Rice defeated the University of Southern Mississippi 4-0 at home on Friday night. The Owls followed up that performance with a 6-0 defeat over Louisiana Tech University, in which junior Holly Hargreaves scored four goals.

This past weekend, the Rice University soccer team hosted and defeated the Air Force Academy Falcons for the first time in school history. In the 21st minute of the match, Air Force struck a crossed-in ball past Rice goalkeeper Amy Czyz to take a 1-0 lead. Just two minutes later, the Falcons added a second goal, giving them a 2-0 cushion early in the game. In the 30th minute, Rice sophomore Jenny Fichera fired a shot and found the top of the net, just avoiding the diving hand of the Air Force goalkeeper, making the halftime score 2-1 in favor of Air Force.

The Rice University soccer team traveled this past weekend to Fayetteville, Ark. to face the University of Arkansas Razorbacks. This matchup marked the final road game for the Owls before the start of Conference USA play.

The Rice University soccer team returned home to Holloway Field after winning back-to-back games on the road last week. On Friday, Sept. 5, the Owls played their second straight Southeastern Conference opponent, the Vanderbilt University Commodores. Rice shocked Vanderbilt by tying the game in the 90th minute of play and then won the game in the first minute of overtime with a header off a corner, resulting in a final score of 2-1.

The Rice University women’s soccer team kicked off their 2014 season with two overtime matches this past week. The 2014 team has many key returning players including senior goalkeeper Amy Czyz and juniors Holly Hargreaves and Lauren Hughes, who led last year’s team in scoring with nine goals each. Other returning players for the Owls are midfielders senior Quinny Truong and junior Danielle Spriggs.

The Rice University baseball team competed this past weekend in a three-game series against the University of Alabama, Birmingham. Upon entering Friday’s game, Rice held a two-game Conference USA lead over UAB but would widen that gap after winning all three games.

The Rice University men’s baseball team traveled to Miami, Fla. on March 14 to face No. 19 Florida International University in a three-game series. In the first contest, junior pitcher Zech Lemond started the game and pitched a career-long eight innings, allowing two runs on eight hits.

The Rice University women's basketball team traveled to Murfreesboro, Tenn. on Saturday, Feb. 8 to play No. 25 Middle Tennessee State University. The Owls were defeated 65-54 by the Blue Raiders and have now lost a season-high five games in a row. Rice shot 34 percent from the field and committed 16 turnovers in the contest.

The Rice Owls women's basketball team hosted two home games this past week against Tulane University and the University of Southern Mississippi. On Wednesday, Jan. 29, the Owls played the Green Wave and lost 62-55. Coming into the game, senior forward Jessica Kuster was 14 points away from breaking the all-time Rice scoring record. At the 3:23 mark, Kuster made a 3-pointer, giving her the outright record for points scored. She currently has 1,881 points and broke a record that had previously been held for 32 years. Kuster also holds the Rice record for career rebounds and field goals made.

The Rice Owls women's basketball team embarked on a six-day road trip to North Carolina to face East Carolina University and the University of North Carolina, Charlotte. On Wednesday, Jan. 22, East Carolina defeated Rice 53-47. ECU entered the contest with a 15-2 overall record and a home winning streak of 22 straight games. Rice cut the margin to two points late in the second half but did not complete the comeback. Senior forward Jessica Kuster led the Owls with 11 points and 17 rebounds, shooting 2-14 from the field.

However, the Owls lost their next game to Florida Atlantic University 97-69, breaking the streak.

This past weekend, the Rice Owls women's basketball team traveled to Boulder, Colorado and participated in the Omni Hotels Classic Tournament. The Owls went into this tournament with an overall record of 3-4. The Owls were playing on shortened rest after a 79-74 overtime loss against Sam Houston State University on Tuesday night.

The Rice Owls women's basketball team traveled to Waco to face Baylor University Monday, Nov. 18. Coming in as the ninth-ranked team in the nation, Baylor defeated the Owls 79-46 for its 60th consecutive win at home.
