In the spirit of the upcoming Centennial, the Rice Inner Loop now sports its own walking guide to the history of the university. A hundred Centennial-themed banners recently replaced the owl banners that hung on light posts. The banners display short historical events and can be read in sequential order by following them down the Inner Loop from Tudor Fieldhouse.
For those searching for a new lunch option, your answer has arrived. Last week, the O'Yeah Cafe opened at the Owl Cove, where Little Willy's used to be in the RMC.
A new Hanszen College student committee is considering renovating and possibly rebuilding New Section, which was erected in 1955. This group, called the New Section Student Advisory Board, has met with Housing and Dining; Facilities, Engineering and Planning; and other administrators to discuss the viability and form of these changes.
The Think Tanks and Civil Societies Program ranked the James A. Baker III Institute for Public Policy 24th on its 2011 list of top United States think tanks. This ranking is an increase from the institute's 27th place finish last year.

The Faculty Senate recently passed a resolution presented by the Student Association and endorsed by the University Committee on Undergraduate Curriculum that will require faculty to provide a syllabus to students on the first day of classes.

On the heels of the recently approved $44.5 million new athletics facility and football stadium renovation projects by the Rice University board of trustees, President David Leebron and Director of Athletics Rick Greenspan hosted Rice student-athletes, alumni, boosters and faculty at the Rice Athletics Public Forum Jan. 19 in the Shepherd School of Music's Stude Hall to share their vision of Rice athletics and take questions from the audience.
A Habitat for Humanity volunteer, group president and enthusiast, McMurty College senior Tawfik Jarjour is directing the Rice Centennial House Project, who goal is to fully design and fund a Habitat House through Rice's chapter of the organization.
The Rice University Police Department arrested and charged a man with attempted burglary of a motor vehicle, criminal trespassing and possession of marijuana on Jan. 12 after a Rice student allegedly saw the suspect attempting to open the doors and trunks of multiple cars near Entrance 23 in North Lot.
International Criminal Court Investigation Coordinator Alex Whiting spoke on Jan. 19 to a group of students, faculty and outside guests on the ICC's mission to correct international violations of justice. For the third time in the last four years, Rondelet has been canceled. The Rice Program Council announced the decision last Friday at the Rice Memorial Center and through Facebook.
A few minutes past seven on the night of Jan. 18, as students waited on Intramural Fields 2 and 3, the fields' new lights turned on to fanfare, illuminating the area within a few seconds.
