The club lacrosse team is not vastly different from the various other club teams Rice has to offer. They’re a team that competes with other schools and continues to grow in size. But one way in which this team is unique is the make-up of the 27 people on it.

Nicole Lennon: ‘Fast, Athletic, Emotional’

For her groundbreaking play during the first four weeks of the season, junior outside hitter Nicole Lennon has been named Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week four times. No other player in Rice history has earned that award four times in an entire season.

Soccer scores win over Charlotte

Rice soccer edged its way past the University of North Carolina, Charlotte 49ers with a successful penalty kick to give the Owls a 1-0 win this Sunday afternoon in their Conference USA opener.

Powderpuff: A new season begins

Eleven teams are set to play in the 21st annual season of Rice women’s flag football competition following Hanszen College’s 13-6 victory over McMurtry College last December in the powderpuff championship game.

Soccer falls to undefeated Oregon State

Rice soccer lost 2-1 in an overtime match against undefeated Oregon State University this Sunday at Holloway Field. Rice was coming off of a 3-2 defeat at  Southern Methodist University, while Oregon State came into the game following a 5-0 victory against the University of Houston and had given up only one goal all season.

In 1962, during his famous “We choose to go to the moon” speech at Rice Stadium, President John F. Kennedy posed a question to the audience. “Why does Rice play Texas?” Kennedy said.

Leading by example: Adams energizes Owls’ defense

 As the summer wanes and the unrelenting Houston sun glares on, Rice football returned to their early season grind during Sunday’s practice. Players ran through various drills and game situation simulations and at the heart of it all was senior defensive lineman Myles Adams. Adams and the team were running situation simulations to improve upon the team’s most recent 14-7 loss to Army West Point.

Bloomgren should stick with Green at QB

Rice football fell to Army West Point 14-7 last Friday, but that shouldn’t be a reason for head coach Mike Bloomgren to make a change to the starting quarterback position. After leaving the status of the position up in the air for nearly the entire offseason, and even stating that he would be willing to open the season playing multiple quarterbacks, Bloomgren named redshirt freshman Wiley Green the opening day starter at last Tuesday’s news conference.

Soccer picks up pair of wins

Head soccer coach Brian Lee kickstarted his Rice tenure with two wins in two matches last week. The Owls defeated Oral Roberts University on the road at Case Soccer Complex on Thursday before beating the University of Houston at Holloway Field on Sunday.
