Rice’s Student Activities/President’s Programming Fund is experiencing a significant rise in demand this academic year, with applications increasing by over 60% compared to last year, according to SAPP administrators.
Several construction projects continue on Rice campus, including a planting refresh in the academic quad, expansion around McNair Hall and the construction of Sarofim Hall for visual arts programs.
Rice started a renovation project this summer to modernize existing colleges ahead of the construction of two more.The renovation is a multi-year project set to finish in the upcoming summer.
Bernard Banks will join Rice’s Doerr Institute for New Leaders as director Jan. 1, 2024. He currently serves as the associate dean for leadership development and a professor at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.

Housing & Dining has increased the ambiance fund from $9,000 to $14,000 for each residential college starting this semester.
Rice trustee Terrence Gee and his family donated $1 million to help launch the Dr. Anthony B. Pinn Postdoctoral Fellowship in the Center for African and African American Studies.
Rice is celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15 to recognize the achievements of the Hispanic American community, as well as their contributions to the culture in the U.S. and at Rice. This year, the Hispanic Heritage Month planning committee has renamed the event to “Our Heritage Month.”
