Bernard Banks will join Rice’s Doerr Institute for New Leaders as director Jan. 1, 2024. He currently serves as the associate dean for leadership development and a professor at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.
Rice’s civic engagement organizations and the Student Association have organized shuttle buses to facilitate the community’s participation in the upcoming Houston mayoral election.
Housing & Dining has increased the ambiance fund from $9,000 to $14,000 for each residential college starting this semester.

Rice is celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15 to recognize the achievements of the Hispanic American community, as well as their contributions to the culture in the U.S. and at Rice. This year, the Hispanic Heritage Month planning committee has renamed the event to “Our Heritage Month.”
